Dr Ashin Nandamala Bhivamsa served as the second Rector of the International Theravada Buddhist Missionary University and is also widely known through his leadership at the International Institute of Abhidhamma and Sitagu International Buddhist Academy.
The Sayadaw continues to serve the Sasana and Dhamma education through writing, teaching, preaching, meditation instruction, and youth cultural training courses.

At the age of five, he began learning Myanmar language and Buddhist literature under U Kelatha, Sayadaw of Pawtawmu Monastery in Nyaung Pin Village.
1311 / 1949
At the age of ten, he became a novice at the Vipassana Gandhayon Monastery compound on Sagaing Hill, with the great Sankin Sayadaw as preceptor.
1321 / 1958
With the great Sankin Sayadaw as preceptor, he received higher ordination at the Sasanamanjari ordination hall of Maha Subodhayon Monastery.

At the age of thirteen, he first passed the three levels of the Abhidhamma examination.
